AT&T’s Cellphone Outage

On Thursday 22nd, tens of thousands of AT&T customers were left without internet, home phone and cellphone services.

While this was newsworthy, as AT&T is the largest US carrier with 240 million subscribers, internet and cellphone service going down is not all that uncommon in pockets around the country.

A few weeks ago, Xfinity internet randomly went down in my local area, due to a “service upgrade”, which was at best poorly announced. As this happened on a weekday morning, I had to scramble to find a location to work from.

We are so reliant on our devices being connected to the internet, that any substantial and widespread outage causes major disruptions.

That’s one of the reasons I started Survivalist.ai – to have access to useful information on your phone or iPad without access to internet, and from anywhere on earth.

Tip: on the Xfinity app, you can request a refund due to your service going down. I received one.
