This resident stayed behind during the devastating Pacific Palisades wildfire and saved his home and his neighbor’s homes while others burned down around him.
Firefighters weren’t around since they were spread thin fighting in other areas, so he used his garden hose to put out small fires as they started, jumping over fences to extinguish them as they happened.
He pointed out that he saw many home fires around his house start with a tiny spark which could’ve been put out by a garden hose. And that’s what he did.
Preemptive measures to protect your home from wildfires:
- Create defensible space by clearing flammable materials around your house (30 feet at least)
- Move your car away from the house
- Install ember-resistant vents and screens
- Keep gutters and roof clear of dead vegetation
- Install a sprinkler system directed at the house
- If you have a pool, consider purchasing a generator to power the sprinkler system
